CURRICULUM DRIVERS

At Horwood and Newton Tracey, a small rural school with a strong community spirit, we have developed a curriculum that is designed to inspire and engage our learners, while celebrating the unique surroundings and values of our village community. Central to our curriculum are four key drivers, which reflect the heart of who we are and what we believe our children need to succeed in both their learning and their lives.

Our drivers—Building Learning Power, Building Community, Building Futures (aspirations and hope), and Building Self-Esteem and Wellbeing—shape every aspect of teaching and learning at our school. These drivers ensure that, despite our rural setting, our children are equipped with the knowledge, skills, and confidence to thrive in a rapidly changing world.

  • Building Learning Power encourages resilience, resourcefulness, and a love of learning, helping our pupils to develop lifelong learning habits.
  • Building Community fosters strong connections both locally and globally, encouraging our children to understand their place in the world and contribute positively to it.
  • Building Futures nurtures ambition and hope, inspiring our pupils to aim high and pursue their dreams with confidence.
  • Building Self-Esteem and Wellbeing ensures that every child feels valued, supported, and able to flourish emotionally, physically, and socially.

Together, these drivers enable us to bring our vision to life, ensuring that every child receives a rich, meaningful education that prepares them for the challenges and opportunities of the future.
